Gusto

Gusto is US payroll software with HR, benefits and hiring features built around it. Suits small US employers; employees outside the US cannot be paid through it.

BambooHR

BambooHR holds employee records, hiring, onboarding, time off and reviews in one system. Good for a growing firm, but its payroll is built for the US only.

Todoist

Todoist is a task manager built around fast capture in plain language and a short daily list. Best used solo or by a small team; it has no dependencies or Gantt.

Asana

Asana is a work management platform for tracking who is doing what by when, across teams. Planning features such as timeline and workload sit on paid tiers.

Trello

Trello is a kanban board app where cards move across lists to show progress. Good for small teams with linear work; it has no dependencies or workload management.

Nuclino

Nuclino is a lightweight team wiki where linked documents double as light project tracking. Fast and simple, but there are no databases, automations or timelines.

Upmetrics is business planning software for writing a plan and building the forecast behind it. Aimed at founders who need to show one to a lender or investor.

QuickBooks

QuickBooks is Intuit’s small business accounting software, covering bank feeds, invoicing, expenses, sales tax and reporting. Strongest in the US market.

Xero

Xero is cloud accounting software for small businesses, covering bank feeds, invoices, bills and reports. All plans allow unlimited users, but lower ones cap volume.
