Freshsales
Freshsales is a sales CRM from Freshworks that combines contact and deal management with built-in phone, email and AI assistance in one interface. The pitch is that a rep should be able to see the account, read the history, make the call and log the outcome without leaving the record or paying for three separate tools. It sits in the same family as Freshdesk and Freshservice, so support and sales data can share a customer view if you use more than one product. In practice it targets teams who find Salesforce heavy but want more sales depth than a simple pipeline tracker.
What you can actually do with it
Work centres on contacts, accounts and deals, with a kanban pipeline for the sales process itself.
- Manage the pipeline visually. Deals move through stages by drag and drop, with multiple pipelines if different products or regions need different processes.
- Call and email from the record. A built-in phone and email client means calls, recordings and correspondence attach themselves to the contact automatically instead of relying on reps to log them.
- Run outreach sequences. Automated email sequences with follow-up steps handle repetitive prospecting, though this sits on higher tiers rather than the entry plan.
- Score and prioritise leads. Freddy AI ranks contacts and deals, suggests next actions and drafts emails, which is useful for triage when a rep has more leads than hours.
- Automate routine admin. Workflow rules assign owners, change stages, send notifications and create tasks based on conditions you define.
- Report on what matters. Custom reports and dashboards cover pipeline health, activity levels, conversion and, on the top tier, forecasting.
- Connect the rest of the stack. There is a marketplace of integrations plus an API, and tight links to other Freshworks products.
Who it fits best
Freshsales fits small and mid-sized B2B sales teams that do meaningful phone and email outreach: inside sales groups, SaaS companies with a handful of reps, and service businesses that qualify inbound enquiries by phone. The built-in telephony makes it particularly attractive when the alternative is buying a CRM and a dialler separately.
It is a weaker choice for very large or complex sales organisations with heavy customisation, partner channels and demanding compliance requirements, and it is overkill for a solo consultant tracking a dozen opportunities a year.
Things worth knowing before you commit
- Billing is per user with tier gating. Sequences, scoring, deal insights, forecasting and custom modules are spread across the plans, so the tier you need is often not the one you first look at. Map your must-have features to a tier before comparing headline prices.
- There is no free plan now. Freshworks has offered a free CRM tier in the past; today the entry route is a time-limited trial, so budget from the start.
- Telephony and AI are metered. Calling relies on credits and some AI functionality is sold as an add-on, both of which sit outside the per-seat price.
- The product has been reorganised more than once. Freshworks has merged, split and renamed its sales and marketing CRM products over the years, so older reviews and comparison articles may describe a packaging that no longer exists.
- Deep customisation has limits. Custom objects and field-level permissions appear only at the top tier, and complex bespoke processes can hit walls that a heavier platform would handle.
Alternatives to compare it against
Pipedrive is the simplest comparison if you want a clean pipeline and little else; it is easier to adopt but thinner on built-in communications. Zoho CRM covers similar ground at a similar level with an even broader suite behind it, at the cost of a busier interface. HubSpot is worth weighing when marketing and sales must share one system and you want a free starting point. If your team is already committed to Microsoft or Salesforce ecosystems, the incumbent option usually wins on integration even when it costs more.
